Ian has seen the game from all perspectives. As a player, he started off right here in Bend, Oregon, graduating from Summit before heading off to play college ball at Columbia Basin College (Pasco, Washington) and Western Oregon University (Monmouth, Oregon). After college, Ian flew oversees to start his professional baseball career for the Perth Heat in Australia where he played for one season before coming back stateside and finishing up with two seasons playing for the Traverse City Beach Bums in the Frontier League in the Midwest. Since hanging up his cleats, Ian has coached, trained, umpired, and is now the commissioner of Bend’s local men’s league. He has dedicated his life to growing baseball in Central Oregon and believes that building a fun learning environment where players are allowed to fail and grow is fundamental to getting better in this game. His relentlessly optimistic approach to coaching leaves kids smiling and excited when the leave the baseball field.
